Andy Warhol was the last artist that inspired me throughout this course.
Biography
Andy Warhol was born on August 28, 1928 in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. He was the fourth child born in his family. His parents were immigrants from the Austria-Hungary Empire. Andy's father worked in a coal mine. In 1939 Warhol started collecting signed cards from film stars. His family was strong in their Catholic faith. In third grade Warhol had a very serious disease and had to go to the hospital. After this he was scared of doctors and hospitals. He was bed ridden a lot as a youth. During this time he would draw pictures. He said that this was a very important part of his development as an artists and how he acted and his personality. He was an outcast at school so he developed a very close bond with his mother. When Andy was 13 his father died in an accident. In 1945 Warhol graduated high school. He wanted to go to a University of Pittsburgh and study to become an art teacher but instead he enrolled in Carnegie Institute of Technology. While there he studied commercial art. He moved to New York City in 1949. He became a magazine illustrator. In 1950 Warhol became famous for his ink drawings of food advertisements. He was hired by RCA records to do covers for albums. He painted very famous people such as Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, and Muhammad Ali. In 1968 Warhol and someone else in his studio was shot by a fanatic feminist. She thought that she had to eliminate all the men. The shooting had a great affect on Warhol's life and his art. The 1970's were very quite for Warhol. He spent much of the 70's getting commissions from painting portraits of the very rich. Warhol died on February 22, 1987 at 6:32 am. He died suddenly in his sleep from cardiac arrhythmia. Warhol was a leading figure in the visual arts movement. Also know as pop art. His artwork was a combination of three different things. Expression, celebrity culture, and advertisements. He was much more than just a painter. He also did drawings, print makings, photography, silk screening film ect. He had a museum opened in his home town of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. It is the largest museum in the United States dedicated to a single artist. Warhol even tried to start computer generated art and is a pioneer of that field. He founded a magazine and wrote a couple books. He along with everything else also lived an openly gay live before it was acceptable to do that in society.
Impact on arthur pearcy's thinking
Andy Warhol was the last artist that inspired me and the last one to impact my thinking during this class. Warhol was a nice relief after looking at the works of Dali and Pollock. Arthur had learned to like the more abstract art. How Warhol impacted Arthur's thinking was that he could combine the use of abstract art and the use of realist artwork. When he did his portraits of celebrities Arthur really liked the work. It combined the use of realism with the use of vivid colors. After examining all of the artists during this course. Warhol was one of Arthur's favorite artists. Warhol made Arthur enjoy all the kinds of art. He had a certain way of combining different styles to produce one beautiful master piece when it was over.
